Government rolls out high-tech gun shot detectors

Allison Barrie
FOX News Gunshots ring out in the dead of night, and not a single person reports it. Yet police know exactly where the shots came from, even before they arrive on the scene.
It sounds like a scene from The Minority Report, but it's real. A new technology called ShotSpotter enables law enforcement officials to precisely and instantaneously locate shooters, and it has been

Collective Action to Prolong the Economic Depression

by Bill Bonner
The Daily Reckoning

Have yourself a merry little depression…

What’s this? Christine Lagarde, IMF chief, said last week that the world’s nations needed to work together to avoid a 1930s-style depression.

But seeing the way they work together…and where they seem to be headed…we’d prefer a depression.

The idea of the world’s authorities is not to solve the debt problem, but to make it larger. One bank goes bust; they get a bigger bank – a central bank – to bail it out. One country goes broke; they get a bigger country to bail it out.

The US bailed out its financial sector. Europe has

Adelson, chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., has for at least half a decade sought to reverse a ban on the gambling houses in the world’s third-biggest economy, only to be blocked by Japanese legislators arguing casinos would fuel organized crime and provide little benefit. Now, a group of 150 lawmakers plans to introduce a bill that could allow

Thomas Perez: Obama's one-man Gestapo

From a September 3rd, 2010 posting by Wes Vernon at Renew America

If you tried to help a "protected" Obama constituency, you had better hope that your best efforts didn't fail. The Gestapo will have you in its crosshairs.

This is not the Gestapo of the thirties-Germany variety so vividly portrayed by Hollywood long after the bright shiny black uniforms and man-sized flashlights of the SS became extinct and

Judge strikes down CITI Group / SEC deal

By LARRY NEUMEISTER
Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) - A judge on Monday used unusually harsh language to strike down a $285 million settlement between Citigroup and the Securities and Exchange Commission over toxic mortgage securities, saying he couldn't tell whether the deal was fair and criticizing regulators for shielding the public from details of the firm's wrongdoing.

U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff said the public has a right to know what happens

The Office of National Stastics said the households saving ratio rose to 7.4% in the second quarter, up from 5.9% in the first three months of this year.

British households ramped up their savings to their highest in almost a year between April and June, official data showed on Tuesday, in a sign that a darkening economic outlook may be causing consumers to retrench.

A.D. 2041: End of White America?

By Patrick J. Buchanan
John Hope Franklin, the famed black historian at Duke University, once told the incoming freshmen, “The new America in the 21st century will be primarily non-white, a place George Washington would not recognize.”
In his June 1998 commencement address at Portland State, President Clinton affirmed it: “In a little more than 50 years, there will be no majority race in the United States.” The graduates cheered.
The Census Bureau has now fixed at 2041 the year when whites become a minority in a country where the Founding Fathers had restricted citizenship to “free white persons” of “good moral character.”

By Patrick Goodenough

September 30, 2011

(CNSNews.com) – Democracy in the U.S. is being undermined by Congress appeasing special interest groups in return for campaign funding rather than tackling climate change, former vice president and global warming campaigner Al Gore has told a conference in Scotland.

Warren Buffett clarifies positionon taxing the rich

President Obama may have thought he had an ally in billionaire Warren Buffet, who recently admitted to paying only $6,000 in federal taxes, which is a lower rate than his secretary. Buffett had said the rich should pay their fair share, but he clarified his statement on Friday.
"It's not to have the rich pay more taxes, but to have the ultra rich who have low tax rates pay more taxes," Buffett said.

"Fast and Furious" Operation Included 50 caliber weapons

It has been reported in the Christian Science Monitor and other sources that the ATF "Fast and Furious" operation included 50 caliber weapons, similar to those shown on this page.

These guns ended up in hands of the Mexican drug cartels and have been used against Americans - ultimately killing a US border patrol agent.

Environmentalist Groups join Obama in attacking Gibson Guitars

Gibson, the popular guitar manufacturer, is being singled out and bullied by the Obama administration over a questionable exotic wood shipment.

Now comes word that several far left-leaning environmentalist groups are grinding their jack-boots into Gibson, even though the company insists it has done nothing wrong and that the wood in question is legal and passed through both Indian and U.S. customs.

Even more surprising is the fact that Gibson has

Do the millionaires really pay less taxes?

Below is an article by Jonathan Karl (AP), that I happen to find on the ABC News website. I immediately copied it and pasted it here because I couldn't believe that ABC, usually so agreeable with the President's proposals, would allow a 'fact-check'  on him and his "Jobs Bill" Speech. The article basically exposes Obama as being less than honest about the amount of taxes that the wealthiest Americans pay.

Treasury Secretary Geithner yesterday declined

Great Source For Mailing Lists

During a search for mailing lists I stumbled upon Accurate Mailing Services in Phoenix Arizona. I'm so glad that I did! They are master brokers for InfoUSA , Experian and Equifax. I was able to buy the exact list that I was looking for at about half the going price. I saved a bundle of money.

As it turns out, almost all of the mailing lists in the country are compiled by only a few companies. Most of these companies make their money (primarily) by collecting and rating consumer credit information - they are credit bureaus. Almost as a sideline, they also sell mailing lists. Most have branched out into offering business mailing lists as well. They sell their information to end users, as well as mailing list brokers and commercial mailing companies.

Brokers buy their lists at various discount prices based upon their volume.

For the most part, you'll find that the brokers price for a mailing list is pretty much the same as it would be if you purchased it directly from the compiler. Same list - same price - give or take a penny or so. I was lucky to find a master broker, Accurate Mailing Services. They apparently sell mailing lists in such large volumes that they can offer huge discounts. The representative that I talk to, explained that they even sell to other list brokers and mail houses.

These days there are many online mailing list services. The idea is that you can search for your target audience, find out how many there are, and down load the list instantly off the Internet. While that sounds convenient, and it is, there can be a high price to pay for that convenience. Actually, in most cases, the price is outrageous. Then there's the problem of knowing that you're getting the right mailing list. If you're experienced in purchasing mailing lists, you probably won't have any problems, other than you'll be paying too much. But if you're not used to purchasing mailing lists you may end up getting the wrong data entirely.

What I liked about working with Accurate Mailing Services is the fact that they took the time to ask me how I intended to use the mailing list. Since they are also in the bulk mailing business, they were able to guide me through options that I never knew existed. I ended up saving an incredible amount of money, both on the mailing list and on the postage rate. Since I was mailing to about 5,000 addresses, the savings amounted to quite a large sum.

So the lessons that I learned is to shop for a mailing list carefully. Don't think that because you're buying it directly from a large, well known company that you're getting the best price or that the data is better than what a legitimate broker is selling. Then, among the brokers, make sure that you are purchasing your mailing list at the best possible price. Remember that there are master brokers who can give you a better deal than a regular mailing house or a broker. Finally, if you intend to send direct mail at discount postage rates. Be sure that you're dealing with the broker that understands the effects of mailing lists on those postage rates.

My search led me to Accurate Mailing Services in Phoenix, Arizona. I couldn't find my list any cheaper. And I was impressed with that detailed information that their staff willingly shared with me. And as I said earlier, I ended up saving more money on the postage rates than I did on the mailing list. they also prepared my bulk mailing and the project was mailed without a hitch.
