He didn't have to do this. His upcoming election may have motivated him to take this outspoken position, but I don't think so. I think he truly believes that his officers will only, ever, and always arrive AFTER a terrorist attack has happened and that the best way to combat face-to-face attacks upon civilians is for the civilians themselves to be armed and ready to shoot. Sheriff Arpaio is one of the few politicians who is willing to speak his mind without worrying about political consequences.
If ever Obama would admit that we have world war three on our hands, the first thing he would want to do is take away our guns. Guns apparently start wars.
